Can we say finally!?!?

After 8 long years, I guess he decided I was worth it. And, of course, I said YES. I was ready a long time ago.

More updates on plans... etc. to come later.

Can I take much more of this? I swear, I love my family but... a person can only take so much before they just say to hell with it, ya know? I shall spare any and all the details of current events but, I will say this if you know me, you know what I'm talking about. If you don't know me, well... thank your supreme being, higher-up-kinda-guy and feel pretty damn lucky that you are fortunate enough to miss out on the hellacious drama that exists in my family. Now, I know we all have our issues within our family but... mine seems to only rear it's ugly head continuously around holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. (Christmas being especially worse 99.99% of the time.) But, it's unnecessary and childish in my opinion. It's somewhat sad when the younger generations of the family are trying to teach the older generations how to behave.

I'm just sayin...

5 days til xmas

It's only 5 days until Christmas. I've got a couple of more presents to buy. I always end up having to wait til the last minute to finish up my shopping. I hope all of you aren't big bad procrastinators like I am. But, I do hope that you all have a very good Christmas and a happy New Year.

Christmas Layout

As you see, I've changed my layout for my blog to a Christmas theme layout. It's a little late but better late than never is what I always say. I'm almost finished with my Christmas shopping. Are you? I don't really like the commercialism of Christmas. I think it's pointless but go with the flow, right?

Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and I'll update as I can.

Light Bulb Ornaments

Often times, when it's too cold or rainy to go outside, I come up with crazy ideas to make things. Today, I decided to make an angel out of a light bulb. I've seen light bulb ornaments before but I have never tried to make one. I found a lot of ideas online but in the end, I went with my gut and just let the creativity flow. I think it turned out really pretty. I think I'll try to make a reindeer next.

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Over the last few years, I've tried to figure out why I have never really cared too much for this holiday. What's the meaning in it? I know the history behind it, that's not what I'm saying. It's a day to be "thankful" for what you have. Honestly, why should we set aside one day for that. Shouldn't we be thankful every single day of our lives for everything that we have? Some say they are thankful for family and that's all well and good but do you need a day to remind you to be thankful? Some say it's so we can be thankful that we now live in the greatest country in the world where we are free to do pretty much anything we want. Right, I get that. But, what else? Holidays have become so commercialized these days that they don't really mean anything at all anymore. It's so confusing and doesn't really amount to much in my book.

But, in the spirit of things... Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Vintage Dream Quilt

Above is the start of my Vintage Dream Quilt courtesy of MODA Bake Shop & Amy from Amy's Creative Side.

This will be the back of one of my quilts that I've already started. So, it will be a reversible quilt. I think it should turn out quite lovely.

Baby Quilt #2

I have started making another baby quilt. This one is for my BFF Tonya. She and her fiance are expecting a baby. For now, I have finished the top of the quilt. I have another quilt that has to be completely finished by Christmas so I am working on that one now. Tonya's quilt has a few months before they will need it. But, it's nice to have already started working on it.

Put in the oven under 350°F for 10-15 minutes or until bottom of biscuits are slightly brown.

I've started tutoring my nephew in his language arts at school. This includes his reading, grammar, writing and spelling. My brother and sister-in-law asked me to help him because he's falling behind in school. He's got a learning disability and there's not really much help for him at his school. The No Child Left Behind Act did not help any of the kids with learning disabilites. It is actually hindering their learning and in reality, leaving them behind; the very thing that it was not intended to do. In my opinion, I think they should do away with the No Child Left Behind Act and go back to LD classes for these kids. When I was in school, we had LD classes and the kids got more one-on-one help and did much better in school. It makes me worry about what the public school system will be like when I have children of my own.

Workout. Religio Medici. MCS.

As you can see, I have a new layout. It's sort of "fall-like" since we've now rolled over into November.

Today started day #1 of my workout day for the month of November. My cousin, Sabrina, my boyfriend Chad & I have all started to commit ourselves to working out at least 3 days per week. My goal is to lose 15 lbs and get in better shape. Chad's goal is to lose 20 lbs in prep for the military. Sabrina's goal is to lose weight, of course. So, I will try to blog about our events regularly. [Please forgive me if I don't though.] Tonight, I did a lot of weight lifts and walked on the treadmill for a while. I want to work on my muscles more than anything. We plan on working out tomorrow night as well and I want to try to work on my abs. We'll see how that goes.

It is 13 more days until the Motion City Soundtrack concert in Atlanta, GA. [Look for pictures and a blog about that in the future.]

I'm slowly working on brushing up on my algebra in prep for the ACT I will be taking in February. Math isn't my strong point so I need all the help I can get. I'm using this website to help. If you need math help, this guy rocks!

Also, in my English class, I'm having to read Religio Medici by Sir Thomas Browne. Obviously, Browne rights about things concerning religion; things that I'm not interested in. So, needless to say, I'm having a hard time making it through the short excerpts we are required to read. Religion has never been an interest of mine. Especially when people are promoting it. It bores me to the point of wanting to stick hot needles in my eyeballs. [Yes, I'm that extreme!] So, pray for me as I trudge through this wonderful piece of literature our teacher thinks is so stimulating.

Zombie Bride

My Halloween weekend was filled with a little fun stuff. But, mostly, I just sat at Chad's house and played video games. Modern Warfare 2 to be exact. It's our ritual, our bonding time, I suppose.

Alanea decided to be a zombie bride for Halloween. So, thanks to me and Chad... she was very creepy looking.

Oh, and someone did a lame job at rolling our yard this year. 2 trees? Really people!? C'mon! If you're going to do it, do it right!

And... since Halloween is over, I'm going to have to find a new layout for my blog. Stay tuned to find out what it looks like next...

Storm damage in Ider

You can see more pictures of the damage here where I got the above photo.

Nobody really knows if it was a tornado but it would have to have been in order to cause this much damage. It ripped through our area around 4:30AM on Oct. 25th. My house was in it's direct path but I guess it jumped us and the following cities in between me and Ider. Obviously, it hit Ider hard. Most of the damage in these pictures was done to the school but that is not the extent of it. Many people's homes were damaged also. There were no reported deaths just a couple of minor injuries treated at the ER later that morning. Amazing what natural things can do, huh?

New eating habits

Today marks week #2 of my plan to cut out as many Mello Yellos from my diet. I decided to do that not only to help me lose weight but also to help me feel better. I've had 3 16 oz. Mello Yellos. I've also had a couple of Dr. Peppers. In a 2 week period, that's good for me. I usually drink at least 2 16 oz. Mello Yellos a day. I haven't noticed any drop in weight but aside from the minor headaches from the lack of caffeine, I've felt pretty good. I've been drinking pink lemonade, water and my favorite cranberry apple juice. I've also started taking an all-in-one daily vitamin. I'm hoping that I start to feel even better soon. My eating habits aren't changing much. That's always been a toughy for me. But, I'm working on it. In the past couple of years, I've started eating a few more things than I normally would.

And that, is a big deal for me!

Crazy old people

This morning at around 8:30 AM, I, unfortunately was woke up to the sounds of my grandmother in a frenzy. Why? Because my dad's aunt was at her house ranting and raving claiming that my dad stole stuff from her rental house while was doing some work on it. Of course, this piques my interest. My curiosity gets the better of me and I get dressed and head on over to my grandmother's house with my dad. He was going to settle the matter. I was there for moral back-up as is the case in this family constantly. I sat, I listened for a good 45 minutes to an hour at them banter back and forth at each other. Then, she mistakenly said that my dad was seen at her rental house on Sunday getting things. She claimed that someone "put a bug in her ear" as to my dad being the one that's stealing from her. Well, I was at home for the majority of the day Sunday. We had visitors from North Carolina. They worked on my dad's race truck all day. I left Sunday around 6:30 or 7 PM. So, I proceeded to put my 2 cents worth in on the argument. We argued back and forth for a couple of minutes. She raised her fist back like she was going to hit me.

"Don't you dare hit me." I said.
"Don't you talk to me that way." She said.
"I'll say whatever I want to." I said.

She then slapped me in my mouth with her keys in her hand. Then, she left out of my grandmother's house like someone had lit a fire under her ass. She left saying she was going to go take a warrant out. Of course, we proceeded to tell her if she did that, I'd press charges of assault on her. My lip was already swelling up. It stayed that way for about an hour and when the swelling went down, I noticed I had a cut on my lip. If she had hit me any harder, she would've busted my lip. I don't guess she ever went to take out that warrant. We haven't heard anything from the police yet.

And to think, all of this happened before 10 AM!

After that eventful morning, my grandmother and I decided to go visit with my aunt. (Not the crazy one!) We sat and talked and enjoyed ourselves for a little while after having such a stressful morning. I also helped my aunt and her husband to set up more of their Etsy account. They sell homemade jewelry. Go check it out!

I spent the rest of the day with my hunny, of course. We went to grab a bite to eat and then came home and played MW2 and then watched The Big Bang Theory and a new episode of CSI. What an interesting yet freaky episode it was too. It was focused on hoarders. Hard to explain, you'd just have to see it. Basically, this lady was a hoarder and had dead bodies all in her house and in the backyard. She wasn't the one killing these people and hoarding them. It has a strange twist at the end. If you can catch it on tv, I definitely suggest watching it. Unless of course you're freaked out by such things.

I'm ending my night with this post and I will probably work on some school work in just a little bit.

Animal remains and television shows...

I spent most of my day just lying around the house being a lazy bum. I attempted to do some laundry. I got one load finished. Guess that's better than none, right? I did accomplish 2 assignments for my classes. That's more important than laundry, right? I read The Minister's Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I also read Rappaccini's Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Both are interesting stories written in completely different ways. I would suggest anyone who enjoys reading to read them. They are short stories of course but they are very interesting nonetheless. (In my personal opinion, Black Veil was the best of the two.)

Then, I discover that my dogs have found some type of animal bone (it looks to be an old deer carcass) and are eating and wallowing in it. Greeeaat! Now, I have to give them a bath. [Note to hunters: Please, please dispose of your deer remains in a properly fashion so as my dogs can not find them. Unless of course, you'd like to come give them a bath everytime they find your disgusting leftovers. Thank you.] I wouldn't mind so much but they just had a bath 2 days ago and aren't filthy and disgusting already.

Later, I spent a nice evening with my love. We grabbed a bite to eat (chinese, his favorite.. not mine. But, compromise!) then headed home for some Teen Mom Finale. If you've never watched Teen Mom, I suggest you tune in to the new season when it finally airs. Maybe a new season with a new cast as well. Not that I don't enjoy the current cast, but it would be nice to find out what the other girls from 16 & Pregnant have been up to since having their children. By the way, the new season of 16 & Pregnant starts Oct. 26 so, tune in!

Right now, I'm watching 19 Kids & Counting. I really like this show. While I think it's crazy to have this many children, I do understand why they chose this lifestyle. They are wonderful people and I enjoy watching them.

Well, I think I'm going to go finish watching this episode.

Fall is in the air!

Today was a lovely, southern fall day. It was a decent temperature and there was a nice breeze blowing. This time of year is about the only time of year that I actually enjoy being outdoors. Don't get me wrong... I enjoy the summer months just as long as there's a nice place to cool off nearby. I can remember a time when it didn't matter to me what the weather was. I just enjoyed being outside no matter what. I would stay out until my parents would be calling me to come inside. [Oh to have those days back!]

Can you remember a time when nothing in the world mattered? I can. Can't we just go back to that time?

Stupid teenagers

Ok, tonight my dad got the police called on him while we were in Huddle House. Why? Because some immature teenagers were sitting at a table near us and my dad was picking on them a little bit. I guess they couldn't take it because they went into the bathroom and called the police. They told the police officer that my dad was harrassing them. It was quite funny because they were proud of themselves. They thought my dad was going to jail. I'm irritated because the police officer that handled it was talking very disrespectful to my dad. He was talking to him like he was 2 years old. I remember the little teenagers and if I ever see them out in public, I'll harrass them some more. It was very uncalled for. But, whatever. I just thought that was something interesting to write about.

Handmade Jewelry

Today was eventful, I'm still in the process of getting things ready for when Tonya and baby Nicholas get here. I have cleaned so much today. I still have a lot to do though. Even though, they will be spending a lot of their time with their family in a nearby city, (due to her grandmother being sick) I am still glad that I'm getting to see them for a little while. It's a rare occasion that we see each other more than once a year. This will make 3 times so far this year. :)

Oh and by the way,

My aunt has started an Etsy site for her handmade jewelry. See the link below if you want to visit. She and her husband make beautiful pieces. Currently, they only have one post on Etsy. But, they can also make custom items.

I got a call yesterday from my BFF Tonya saying that she would be coming down from NC. Unfortunately, it's because of family issues. But, I'm excited nonetheless because she will be bringing baby Nicholas with her. It's only been a couple of months since I've seen them but Nicholas is growing up so fast. I can't wait to just chill out with them this weekend. I will snap a few pictures and post them on here when the weekend is over. I'll post updates if I can.

PS: As you can see, I've changed my blog layout in honor of Halloween.

Supperseeds & Employeement

Ok, today, my mom, Chad, Alanea and I all went to Huntsville because my mom had to go have some test done. Well, she was telling us about this memo she received at work. Whoever wrote this memo clearly needs a spelling intervention. Instead of supercedes, they had "supperseeds" ... instead of employment, they had employeement. [We'll give them a little credit for that one because they only had 2 extra letters in there.] But, c'mon... supperseeds.. REALLY!? Even Alanea, a 10 year old, knew how to spell it correctly. And these people are business owners? REALLY!?

I just thought I'd share that random funny of the day!

So, Chad and I were doing the whole wedding-talk thing. I've come up with our date which is 09.13.2013 and I know that is like 3 years from now. But, there's a significant reason for that date. We were trying to figure out teh table set up and seating of the venue we're thinking of using. It's quite a challenge. I wish I could just get David Tutera to come do the whole thing. It would make my life so much easier. I have put together pretty much everything myself. I've even written the ceremony word-for-word. Does that sound a little odd? Oh well. I'm odd. I've got 3 more years of planning to do. Who knows what I will come up with next.

55th annual VFW fair

Image from here.

Chad and I went and walked around at our local fair. We mainly went to get the delicious-looking treat above. It's a funnel cake for those of you that don't know. Basically, it's deep fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar. Not healthy for you but they sure are good. We didn't ride any rides because none looked fun enough and the ferris wheel was one of those bench-type seats and we don't do those. We didn't play the games because they are rigged for the most part and a waste of money. (Especially when you don't have a job like me.) But, we had a good time just walking around and eating funnel cake. Hey, at least we got some exercise in for the night.

Still job searching.

So, my search for a job has continued. And, I'm afraid it will continue for a while. You see, I live in a BFE town in Northeast Alabama. Put it this way, if you blink you miss it. Our closest city has a few places for employment... McD's, BK, Taco Hell.. etc. The other city used to be the "Sock Capital of the World" but over the past couple of years, the sock mills have shut down. Their work was sent overseas or across the border. So, the best employment you can get now is either Wal-Mart or Lowe's. It's quite a sad situation. I'm having to look 50+ miles away from home for a decent paying job. And then, I have to make sure that it pays enough for me to make the trip each day until I either move closer or find something else. I'm looking for something that I can work at and pay my car payments for the next 2 years. After that, I won't have to stress as much because my car will be PAID-IN-FULL. (aka NO MORE PAYMENTS) So, while I can still draw my unemployment, I steadily look for a job. It's a journey around here. So until then...

Trip to KY, Bath & Body Works update...

Ok, so I headed out to KY Thursday night. We had an eventful weekend to say the least. We made that trip to Bath & Body Works and I did indeed get the pumpkin scent that I wanted. Well, I got home and showed my mom and she wanted it! She even gave me the money for it. So now, I don't have my pumpkin scent anymore. That's okay though. I can get more. In fact, at the bottom of the Bath & Body Works receipt, there's a number you can call and receive $10 off a $30 purchase so me being the penny pincher that I am, called the number. You take a short survey (it really is worth the time) and they give you a validation code to write in the spot on the receipt. Then, you take it into your Bath & Body Works store and they take care of it from there. Plus, they also gave me a coupon for 20% my next purchase. You can't use the two together but it's nice to have both of them. These things make wonderful presents for Christmas, birthday, etc. So, I'll probably be buying up more since I do indeed have these discounts.

Right now, they are having a sell on the pumpkin scent as well as other select scents and I must go and get some of them. I'm heading up to Ft. Campbell again this weekend with Leslie so maybe we will have time to go pick up at least a few.

Scrapbook pages...

I was looking through my old pictures a couple of days ago. I found several pictures of my nephews when they were little. I decided that I needed to add some pages to my scrapbook of my nephews. I have to now gather up all the pictures that I need to make copies of and get those made and then design a few pages for them. I have 4 nephews that I'm going to have to create pages for. I have a lot of catching up though. From them being a baby up to now; they are 16, 15, 14 & 11. Yeah, a lot of catching up to do. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where all of our pictures are from when they were babies. Now, I'm thinking maybe I should just create an 8x8 album just for my nephews. I have a lot of thinking to do.

Ft. Campbell, KY

It's a Saturday night at Ft. Campbell, KY. I'm sitting here watching The Real World on MTV. Today was eventful enough. We went to Kohl's and I found a couple of things... a picture album for all my pictures of Nicholas & I bought Tammy a Live, Laugh, Love picture frame. All on sale of course. LOL We came home and rested a while and then went and got something to eat for supper. We cut the watermelon I bought and put it in zip-loc bags in the fridge. We'll eat it later because it will be so good cold. I'm not sure what's on the agenda for tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'm going home tomorrow either. I need to do some homework. Watermelon season is almost over.

Well, watermelon season is almost over for my area. Here in Alabama, watermelons usually last til the end of August first week of September and then, they don't produce anymore. It's a good thing for me because school has started back as I stated in my last post. Not having to work in the fields will give me extra time to concentrate better on my English Lit and American Lit classes. Right now, I'm ahead in English Lit. I want to be ahead in both of my classes but the bookstore was out of my American Lit book. They told me today that it will probably be Wednesday before the books come in. I have an assignment due Thursday! So, my plans of getting ahead before I take my trip to Ft. Campbell, KY were ruined. I'm supposed to leave heading to Ft. Campbell on Thursday which means, if my book comes in Wednesday, I'm going to have to rush to get the assignment done so that I don't have to do it while I'm at Ft. Campbell. Right about now, I am kind of wishing I hadn't taken classes this semester but, I want to get as much done as I can. I guess I will deal with what I have to.

I really need to start posting more. My problem is that I can't ever really find the time to sit down and write interesting things like I want to. I'm starting to think I'm just not interesting. LOL

Motion City Soundtrack!!!

I noticed a couple of days ago that Motion City Soundtrack will be coming to Atlanta in November. Will I be going to this concert? I most certainly will. I will be taking Alanea too. She loves Motion City Soundtrack. I was worried about her being so young but it's at the Variety Playhouse and the website says that concerts are all ages unless otherwise noted. You basically have to be able to walk in with your own ticket. So, that's something to look forward to in the next few months. If you have no idea who Motion City Soundtrack is, then go Google them or something. You need to know who they are!

Home at last!

I got home from Myrtle Beach around 3:30 PM. I'm so glad to be home! The beach was pretty in the morning and it was nice and breezy in the afternoon. As for the city itself, North Myrtle where our hotel was located, was really nice. It wasn't too crowded and it had plenty of souvenier shops. Central Myrtle, on the other hand, was crowded with people and traffic was horrible. We only went to Central Myrtle one time and that was to go to Tonya's hotel.

We ate at the Hard Rock Cafe. This one is shaped like a pyramid. It was prety cool. We were also going to eat at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville but there was a 3 hour wait in line just to get a table. We said forget that. It was a bummer but there was no way we were waiting 3 hours for a table.

It was a decent trip despite some ups and downs. But, I probably won't go back.

[2] days until vacation

It is 2 days and counting til vacation. I leave Monday. Expect the usual lack of blogs while I'm on vacation. Or, who knows, I might blog more. I'm sure there will be a couple of days full of adventure worth some sort of blog-ish related action.

Today, wasn't very eventful. I went in search of black flip flops as mine broke a few days ago. Do you know how hard it is to find black flip flops? No? Well, let me tell you... it's HARD! LOL. Wal-Mart was conveniently out of stock of them. How in the world could Wal-Mart be out? I was shocked! So, I had to go down the street to K-Mart. Low and behold, I find black flip flops! Now, they had stupid plasic rhinestones on them but, alas, they are black flip flops and the rhinestones can be easily removed. So, my journey for black flip flops ended in a good note.

After that, my cousin and I dyed my hair. Our goal was Huckleberry Blue from Beyond the Zone hair color. But, I'm not sure if we did something wrong or if the color just doesn't turn out like it's supposed to but, instead of the blue I got more of a turquoise effect which is cool because it turned out a nice shade of blue/green.

My day ended with a few hours of playing Xbox with the Chad and watching Viva La Bam on MTV.Oh! and finishing up some classwork. I'm now at home, just finished the classwork and I'm probably going to pass out in my comfy bed. Or, watch some more tv. I'm not even sure. I'll post a picture of my hair tomorrow probably.

Watermelons & Crazy Old Men

By now, my readers (if there are any) know that I'm a southern girl. In keeping with that, one wouldn't find it surprising to know that my day consisted of picking watermelons. It was god awful hot today. High 94 degrees F, Low 68 degrees F. Out in the field with the sun beating down, it sure does seem a lot hotter than 94 degrees. But, here we are moving along through the field finding these watermelons and loading them on the truck. We were almost finished with when this crazy old man came out. Apparently, he shared part of this patch with the guy who owned the land for his garden and while we checked before we drove through it, we supposedly ran over his garden and "plum rurnt" it. We accidentally ran over 2 stalks of okra and we by no means "rurned" them. We apologized and were trying to be civil but it's hard to be nice to a man who's cussing you and waving a sharp rake at you. Fortunately for him, the old man finally dropped the subject and went back into his house. There were 2 grown men out in the field plus 3 teenage boys as well as myself and 2 others. He was easily outnumbered. But, one would have to understand the mentality of 65+ year old men in the south. They think they are 10 feet tall and bullet proof no matter what their age is. It's actually quite amusing. We finally got finished for the day after this little incident. We loaded 250+ watermelons between 2 trucks. I felt as though I was going to pass out it was so hot. I've come to the conclusion that either the watermelons have gotten larger over the years of I have gotten smaller. No, no... I'm fully aware that I don't have the energy or the strength that I did when I was younger. But, I still try because I'm not one to give up. Sadly, I had to give up after about 45 minutes in the heat today. But, I did my part the best I could.

I have a ton of class work to finish this weekend before I leave for Myrtle Beach. Plus, I have a little more laundry and packing to do as well. I need to clean my car out for the trip plus do a check up on tires, oil... etc. But, it's gonna be good. :)

New Design, Myrtle Beach & School

I'm pretty good with HTML but I can never get the HTML to work on these blogs as well as I can websites. So... I have to use pre-made layouts. I'm fine with that in most cases because I don't have to spend as much time on them. But, I can never find a blog that is exactly what I want. I kind of just have to settle for something that I halfway like.

I leave for Myrtle Beach, SC in 5 days. I'm driving, not flying. I wish I were flying. It's so much easier than driving but, it's a little more expensive and since Chad is going too, we would have to buy 2 plane tickets. It's just better to drive the 8 hours and 43 minutes give or take an hour depending on how long and how many times we have to stop for gas, bathroom break... etc. I'm sure it will be a fun trip though.

I'm almost finished with my school work for this semester. I've been stressing over my biology class because I don't do so well. Pretty much anything that has to do with math and/or science, I don't do well at all. This semester I took geography and biology and I've struggled with biology so bad. I think I am going to pull through with a C. It's not great but it's passing and while I'm not 100% satisfied with it, I'm thankful that I will pass. Here's to hoping!

School work, vacation...

I haven't really been keeping up with this blog here lately. That really sucks, I know. I'm not a writer. I'm not good at expressing myself in words although I do try from time to time. Right now, it's 4:06 AM and I'm taking a short break from doing class work. I'm trying to finish what class work I have left before I leave for vacation. Where am I going on vacation? Myrtle Beach! I've always wanted to and my BFF Tonya just lives about 3 hours from there. She just had a baby boy, Nicholas back in December so I'm going to see them as well as to get away from the everyday crap of regular life. LOL I leave on August 2 and I come back on August 5. It's not a long vacation but it will do me some good to get away from here. So, I'm hurrying with school work and getting prepared for vacation. My next couple of weeks is full. Plus, the Friday before vacation, I will be experimenting with my hair by dying parts of it blue. Don't ask me why. I just feel like it at this point. It never stays for long so I'm sure it will go away after a while. Anyways, it's back to class work I go.

Until next time...

Unemployment Compensation

Well, I got a nice little surprise a few minutes ago. I was going to make my claim for my unemployment this week and I decided to check the status of it afterward just to make sure it said pending or whatever, idk. Well, I go in and the last 2 weeks of my claims have usually said NOT PAID because I was denied but this time, they said PAID. I about flipped a lid! I had to appeal my disqualification and I guess my letter of appeal worked. Thank goodness! I have been so worried this week trying to figure out how I was going to pay my car payment for this next month. I'm still going to be looking for a job hardcore but for now, I can rest easy knowing I have some form of income to pay my bills. Yay!

Thursday, June 17, 2010

So, while I'm unemployed, I have decided that I should work on some of my projects that I had started a while back and seem to have neglected over the past few months. A while back, when I was on a remodeling frenzy, I decided to redo my bathroom. Now, this was all fine and dandy until I discovered that I could not find a shower curtain to suit my wants, not needs. So, me being the crafty-minded person that I am decides I'm going to venture into the world of sewing once more and create my own shower curtain. So, I bought the material and started my work and that's when my best friend tells me she's expecting a baby. So, I had to stop that project and start on the baby quilt that I wanted to make her. The baby quilt took quite a few months to finish considering it was my first quilt ever and I did the majority of it on my own. By the time I was finished with the quilt, I received a call for a job I had interviewed for; that was back in August. Since then, work and school has taken over my life. Until now... Now, I can restart my shower curtain project and hopefully finish it over the next couple of weeks. I still have school to attend to and I have a steady job search that I must concentrate on. But, my projects will resume and I wish finish them. Slowly but surely.

The hunt is still on...

for a job, that is.

For those of you who are just tuning in and have yet to read my fantastically, wonderful, archives (*note the hint of invisible sarcasm in that), I have been unemployed for approximately 3 weeks. Since my unemployment I have been on a dramatic search for a job, any job, that can pay my bills until a better job comes along. I am on the verge of being desperate. Or, I might have already went over the edge on that one.

Let's see...

In the past few weeks, I have applied for a housekeeping job at the local Days Inn. I have applied for an office job at the local Comfort Inn. I have applied for any random job at the closest Dollar General because I was told they were hiring. I have applied for a cashier job at the local K-Mart because I saw an ad for that on and I randomly applied for a job at the local Pizza Hut just because it was something to do.

May I freely say that looking at that wild arrangement of jobs that really have nothing to do with each other, I can conclude that I am indeed desperate for a job?

I should say so.

So, if any of you readers (or lack of, I'm sure) know of anywhere in the DeKalb County Alabama area that might be hiring, please let me know. I would dearly appreciate it.

Unemployment sucks

I get a letter today from unemployment stating in order to continue my claim, I must send them copies of my check stubs, W-2, etc. from a certain date to the present. It said I had 7 days from the date of the letter so of course because the post office is super slow, I now only have 4 days. I was freaking out. I started a full search of my room and car for my check stubs. Hoping all the time I had the ones I needed. When I come to the end of this search, I realize I'm missing a month worth of check stubs. Oh no! So, I have to race to the bank (mind you if was close to 2pm already) and see if they can give me a print out of my direct deposit for the dates needed. Got that. This, my friends, is when I realize our scanner at home doesn't work. So, I can't scan the check stubs to print out copies of them. Blah! So, I have to dash to my brother's house and use his scanner, come back home and print all the stuff out. By this time, it's too late to go to the post office. It will all have to wait to be sent tomorrow.

It sucked! But, it's done. So hopefully, I'll get my unemployment started.

Comfort Inn

I just learned of a desk-type job at a Comfort Inn in a nearby city. I have to go to the career center down there to apply for the job, so I'm going to do that tomorrow, hopefully. I have my degree in office administration so hopefully that will help me get the job. I'm also still working on the Wal-Mart idea. I'm not sure how any of this is going to turn out. Here's to hoping...

Wal-Mart... again?

Job hunting expedition numero uno: I have just completed the application and questionaire that is on the employment application. I passed the assessment on the questionaire so I hit "submit". I now, have to either wait and hope for a call from them or... call them. Now, I have worked for Wal-Mart before. Granted, it was about 4 years ago but, I'm sure they haven't changed that much. You literally have to bug them for about a week or two by calling them every week. I guess it shows them that you're serious about wanting a job. Who knows. Anyways, that is my first attempt at finding another job. I will keep you up-to-date when I get more.

School starts tomorrow

It's 11:58PM, it's almost technically "tomorrow" right? School starts tomorrow, June 1st. Yay! I'm not exactly looking forward to jumping back into my classes given the fact that they are geography and biology. Those are not two of my best subjects but, I am going to try my best. My sister-in-law, Donna, just recently graduated from nursing school so I'm sure I can get her to help me with the biology but I'm not sure about the geography. Oh well, I can handle it, I'm sure. I'm not sure what else I can say about my classes right now. We'll see how they go once I get in there and get started.

School starts again soon...

So, June 1st, I will be back to the daily grind of my continuous college courses this summer. I graduated May 6th with a degree in office administration but, it has always been my dream, ever since I was a little kid, to be an English teacher. Therefore, I have returned to school to finish what few classes I have left at my 2-year college in order to transfer on to my 4-year college. My goal is to transfer to JSU in Jacksonville, AL. I plan on teaching middle/high school English education. High school kids may be more difficult to deal with for some but for me, I don't think it will be too difficult. Younger age groups just simply frustrate me. Don't get me wrong, I love kids for the most part but I know deep down that teaching them just isn't for me. So, I will keep you updated as my journey continues. I would say don't fret if I don't update every single day. I will be busy but, I honestly don't believe anyone reads my blog so I won't say that.

'Til next time...

No job = No money

So, I lost my job Friday. Fun. Over a bogus reason, I'll tell ya. Apparently, our new manager, who has only been there a few weeks mind you, says I'm disrespectful to my coworkers. Ha! I laugh at that. It all boils down to my word against another you-know-what girl at work. Yes, I'm smack talking this person. She deserves more than smack talk and, Karma is a bitch so her day is coming. So now, I am unemployed. I'm awaiting my state unemployment compensation approval and hopefully, I will get enough unemployment to pay my bills so I don't have to rely on my parents. That really sucks. I'm a very independent person when I can be. Most people would say, "If you are so independent, then why do you still live with your parents?" Well, to that I answer, "I still live with my parents a) because the cost of living has went up so much in the last few years, that I can't afford to pay rent and utilities on my own. and, b) my parents don't mind me living with them.

So, in short, I'm out of work, I'm broke and now I shall start my job hunt. I have my degree in office administration so I shall start looking in that field but I will accept the first decent job that comes available.

I will update on my job hunt as I can.

Word of the day... Disrespect

dis·re·spect  /ˌdɪsrɪˈspɛkt/ [dis-ri-spekt]

1. lack of respect; discourtesy; rudeness.

–verb (used with object)
2. to regard or treat without respect; regard or treat with contempt or rudeness.

I chose this word because today, I was told that I was disrespectful. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am not disrespectful by any means unless you disrespect me first. It just kind of ticked me off when I was told this so I decided to use this as my word of the day.

Word of the day... FINAGLE

So I get bored...
I've decided to start a Word of the Day thing. It will be included in any daily blog. So, since I really don't have anything to write about that I find interesting, I am going to put the information on my word of the day.

finagle verb
Pronunciation: \fə-ˈnā-gəl\
transitive verb
1 : to obtain by indirect or involved means [finagle a ride home]
2 : to obtain by trickery [finagled his way into the concert]

I absolutely love watching the show Hoarders on A&E tv. I've watched several different episodes with people who have entirely different stories. It really disturbed me to watch a couple of the stories. One episode that touched me the most was of a gentleman in Mobile, Alabama. Long story short, he gathered things, old lawnmowers, scrap metal... etc., like most southern people do, in order to repair and resale them. Neighbors in his community decided that his "junk" was an a distraction or an eyesore per se. In other words, they were more worried about what people would think about their community than they were this gentleman. They complained to the county and the county gave him an ultimatum, clean up or go to jail. So, the people from A&E and their specialists decided to come in and help him clean up his yard to prevent him from going to jail.

And of course, like southern people, we have an attachment to our things that we could fix, use and/or make money off. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not stereotyping ALL southern folks. I am a southern girl and proud of it. However, whether we like it or not, southern folks do have a tendency to gather, collect, hoard... whatever you want to call it.

While I don't agree with this man keeping ALL of this stuff, I don't think it was right that his neighbors complain enough to the county that those measures had to be taken. If they wanted it removed so bad, why not be neighborly and get out there and work with him to remove what was actual junk and let the man keep what he could indeed repair and sell. Especially with the way our economy is today.

Let me end this by saying that I don't think hoarding is good. I know it is a disease and I know there are different levels of hoarding. I'm not by any means condoning this man or any other hoarder's actions. I just think there are better ways of combating a situation such as this rather than getting the government involved.

Champagne wishes... caviar dreams...

And, I have no idea what the title has to do with the post I'm about to make.

It's 3:24AM and I'm sitting here writing for no apparent reason other than I need an outlet and alas! my beloved, handy-dandy blog is always a good listener. Kinda like the handy-dandy notebook on Blues Clues. (Oh to be young again!)

Anyways... back to business...

I deeply, whole-heartedly, with all my being, dislike how easily people think they can just run over me because the boss told them to relay a message. I also think that while I'm coming into a 20-something thousand square foot hot mess at my place of employment, because it wasn't kept in the proper condition during the day, I should not be expected to make it look presentable all by myself. Especially when there are 2 others perfectly capable of doing equal amounts of work there as well. But no, per the boss, I was supposed to clean the mess while they work on projects. Ahem. Excuse me bum-ba-clot!? I.. DON'T.. THINK.. SO! Entirely not fair by no means. Especially not when I've worked the closing shift 2 nights already cleaning up messes from 4:30PM on; and you want me to come in and do it a third night by myself. Hmph! Pardon me while I scoff. *scoffs* Y'alls must be trippin', mhm.

So, yes, I've moaned and groaned about my employment situation enough for now. Hope all you readers (or lack of) can relate in some way, form or fashion. We all have those crap jobs, yes we do. We just have to keep our chins held high and hope we come out on top.

Until next time...

I know it's been quite a while since I updated my blog. I honestly don't know what to talk about on here therefore, I never update. I believe my last blog was about going out to NC to see Tonya and baby Nicholas.

That trip... was so much fun. (Despite the fact that Nicholas was teething while I was there.) We had lots of pictures made while I was there. I can't wait for her to get those so that I can put some up on here, Facebook and MySpace. (Yes, I'm addicted to those sites as well.)

Nicholas is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen. And, no, it's not because he's my best friend's son either. He is just a pretty baby. Has so much personality for such a little guy.

While we were there, we tried to go to the NC zoo. After being there about 15 minutes, we got rained out. No refunds or rainchecks at that place either. There was no call for rain in the forecast that day. It was such a bummer. However, we ended up taking a trip to David's Bridal to look for Tonya's wedding dress. It was fun. We got to play dress up basically. LOL We found her dress. She looked absolutely amazing in it. Down-right fierce, actually! She was so beautiful. I can't wait to see it in the wedding.

All in all, that's a brief summary of my 4 days there. It wasn't long enough. I miss them both so much. My little Nicholas is growing up so much day-by-day. I hate not being there to see it. But, I'm always there for him even though I'm 500 miles away.

PS: My birthday was 2 days ago. (May 20) I turned the big 24. Yes, I did. I still don't feel any older. Maybe tomorrow...

Thursday, May 20, 2010

Go shorty! It's your birthday!

I turned the big 24 today. Yes, I did. I don't feel any older. I guess that doesn't hit for a few more years, huh?

Chad and I took a trip to Birmingham to go to Yogurt Mountain. For those of you that don't know what that place is (which I'm sure a lot of you don't because I didn't until Chad told me about it and apparently he heard it somewhere), it's a frozen yogurt shop way out in the middle of BFE, Cahaba Heights area, Birmingham, AL... if you ever get a chance, go, it's pretty frickin' awesome. (If you like frozen yogurt that is.) I'm sure there are more in other states. Look it up!

Before we went there, we went to the Galleria mall. It's a pretty big mall with the Wynfrey hotel attached to it. LOL I wasn't too fond of all the shops that were there. Most of them were for rich type people. (Swarovski, BeBe, Coach... etc.) but the food court was awesome. I had my favorite Auntie Anne's cinnamon sugar pretzel and Chad had a gyro from Great Wraps. We walked around and just checked the place out because we had never been before. It was a good day!

<3 - PRiLA

PS: Thanks to all my friends that sent me birthday wishes!

New Layout

Finally, a new layout. The other one was getting old and boring to me. Well, it's officially 3 days until I will be leaving for NC to see my BFF Tonya and my nephew Nicholas. I've got a lot to do before I'm ready to go but I will pull through and get it finished somehow. Right now however, I have to go to bed. I have to work tomorrow.

NC + BFF + New Nephew = Fun!

I'm heading out to North Carolina next month to visit my best friend, Tonya and my new nephew, Nicholas. I haven't been out there in a couple of years and the last trip wasn't a good one as I spent it in the hospital with her while she had surgery on her eye. She's got a new baby named Nicholas. He's such a cutie. I can't wait to meet him for the first time.
I'm looking forward to this trip. Then, hopefully I'll be able to start planning mine and Chad's vacation for August. Lots to do, lots to do!

So much for my plans

So much for catching up on some bills in March. With the way my hours are staying at a steady 25, I won't be catching up. I'll be staying in the same place. Great.

As for my workout routine, it's coming along. Slowly. I have been trying to work in some exercises here and there. Mainly at night when I have nothing else going on. I need to get back into using my DVD a little more. Will work on that.

I'm currently trying to figure out where to go on vacation (if I get to go anywhere at all) this year. Money is tight so somewhere not so expensive would be nice. Suggestions?

Monday, March 1, 2010

My plans for March:

get caught up on some bills
try to start a workout routine

Yeah right. That's easier said than done, I know. It's a nice thought though.

Honestly, I don't have any specific plans for March.

Applying for fiancial aid

Pretty soon I will be applying for my financial aid for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year. I will be working toward my degree in English Education. It seems a little strange my saying I'm going to work toward my degree in English Education. I can see myself being a teacher. I just don't know if it will work. I'm going to try my best.

Another Sleepless Night

I'm having yet another sleepless night. These are getting more and more frequent and I don't know why. I don't know why I can't just lay down and go to sleep without a million different thoughts running through my head. Thoughts about what is going to happen tomorrow, what I want to happen in the future, what I'm afraid isn't going to happen in my life, and so many others that I can't even begin to name. I wish I could just lie down and be out once my head hits the pillow.

Well, I guess I'll end here and go try to sleep... again.

Until next time...

Motion City Soundtrack concert

After standing out in the cold for close to 3 hours, all I can say is, the Motion City Soundtrack concert was awesome and it was well worth the wait. Even though I complained the entire time because it was so cold. We were at the Masquerade in Atlanta, GA and we were in the section called Heaven. Everyone was jumping up and down. I literally thought the floor was gonna fall through. I liked their CDs but in concert they were just as good. If you ever get a chance, go see them. For real.

Trying to find...

Sometimes I wonder what my real talents are. I have a variety of hobbies but I'm often trying to figure out what my talents are. The truth is, I'm not that good at anything in particular. I can't sing, I can't dance, I can't draw, I can't paint. I can't do anything that special. So, where does that leave me? I can quilt, I can cross-stitch. I can do all those boring stereotyped grandma hobbies. So, is my talent being "grandma-ish?" Boy, I hope not. I guess one day I will figure it out. I just wish that day would come soon.

Jesus' favorite color

Being that I work in the retail business, I see and hear a lot of strange things. Something that happened today while I was at work sparked this story...

To make a long story short, I was at the cash register today because we were short-handed and I greeted this lady who was ready to check out and I noticed she was buying several items that were purple in color. Here is how the coversation went:

Me: You must like purple.
Purple Lady: Yes, I do. Did you know that purple was Jesus' favorite color?
Me: Hm, I didn't know that.

*Awkward silence*

Purple Lady: You do know Jesus is your saviour, right?
Me: Yeahhhhh, I do. (trying not to sound sarcastic)
Me: Thank you ma'am. Have a nice day.
Purple Lady: You too. God bless.

For those of you who might already know, I'm not the most religious person you'll ever meet. In fact, I'm far from it. However, when situations such as those come up, I try my best to be polite even if I do have to tell a little white lie.

Now here is how the conversation played out in my head...

Me: You must like purple.
Purple Lady: Yes, I do. Did you know that purple was Jesus' favorite color?
Me: What!?! How the hell does anybody know what Jesus' favorite color was?

I'm not exactly sure how the rest of the conversation would've went. Who knows. It might've ended right there had I said what I was really thinking. Now, with that story out there, it leads me to my next venture. How many of you think you know what Jesus' favorite color was? LOL. Take my poll and tell me what you think!

What do you think is Jesus' favorite color?
Jesus who? free polls

**Please note, this blog is not meant to offend anyone's religious beliefs whatsoever. However, I will not apologize for any offense taken. This blog is my personal space to do with whatever I wish and that is exactly what I do. Thank you.

My future house plans

It's 12:35am and I couldn't sleep so, I thought I'd blog about my future house plans. So far, for someone my age, I am ahead of the game. I already have a piece of land. It's small but it's mine and I don't owe anything on it. (That's the good part.) It needs some prepping before a house can be put on it. It needs to be leveled off because there's a slight slope. Water pipes need to be run. If I'm not mistaken, it has a power pole but no box. I have already picked out a few of my favorite floorplans. It's going to be a tough decision though because I like all of them. They all have my requirements... a utility room, his & hers closets, and a dishwasher. (I absolutely loathe washing dishes, lol.) Sometime soon, I want to go look at models of houses. However, I have no idea when that will be. My work schedule is all weird here lately so I don't have a whole lot of time. I will just have to make time at some point. My future goals are always changing because life is always changing but getting my own house is my #1 goal and has been for a while. I am going to start saving as much money as I can to put toward getting that land prepped for a house. It may take me a few years but if I have to do it alone, then I will. I've always been pretty independent and I will stay that way. I feel better when I do things on my own anyways. But, it sure would help if I didn't have to sometimes. LOL. That's life.

Til next time...

- April
I have just registered for mobile blogging. Now I can blog if I see something while I'm not at home and want to share or keep up with it. Fun!

My hopes for 2010

I know this blog is kind of late. I really should've posted this about a month ago. With few exceptions, I have no idea what 2010 has in store for me. I can only hope it is something good. Here are a few things I hope will happen.

1. I hope to graduate from college with a 3.5+ GPA.
2. I hope to be able to work more towards buying my own home.
3. I hope to take as many trips as possible before 2011.
4. I hope to be able to get Cindy house trained soon.
5. And of course, I hope to lose more weight this year. (Don't we all hope for that?)

I'm sure I have lots more hopes for 2010. I just can't think of them right now. One of my goals is to keep up with this blog better than I have the past couple of years. (Don't hold your breath though.)

We shall see what happens...

My tattoo

I have wanted to cover up my wrist tattoo for a while. I can't ever find the time to go and see about having it covered up. I have finally came up with a design on my own but now all I need is for someone to tell me it will work or not. I have no idea when or how that's gonna happen. I can keep hoping, right?

One day... one day...

Not that anyone reads this...

According to my last post, I was going to start updating more often. Needless to say because it's quite obvious, I haven't updated since June of last year. Sorry. It's not like anyone reads this blog anyways.

A lot has happened since June. Yeah, surprise, surprise. (Sarcasm is my best quality. Ha, not really. But ya know...)

I'm not making any promises, but I'm going to try this again. I might update more often, I might not. If anyone reads this, let me know. LOL
